Kristel Hilasaca Mamani, a former student of the Professional School of Psychology of the Peruvian Union University, along with other professionals, published the scientific paper entitled «Initial psychometric evidence of a Thesis Advisor Abuse Scale (EMAT) in the Journal of Medical Education of Q3 in Scopus.
The study is based on the context of mistreatment experienced by health students in the academic setting such as verbal offense, intimidation, bullying and undermining or the act of ignoring and rejecting some work of the thesis advisor.
The aim of the study was to design and validate a Thesis Advisor Abuse Scale (EMAT).
For this purpose, 274 thesis students of both sexes who graduated from health careers such as medicine, psychology, obstetrics, nursing, biology and nutrition from private and public universities on the coast, the highlands and the jungle of Peru participated in the study.
A scale of 20 items distributed in 3 factors was designed and validated: advisor, jury and administrative staff.
As a result, it was concluded that the EMAT is valid and reliable for measuring mistreatment of thesis advisors.
