In the midst of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the campaign «Peru, I pray for you» was born, organized by the Universidad Peruana Unión (UPeU), which aims to promote solidarity and seek to help each other.
With messages such as «To pray for someone is to love them», a delegation made up of students, faculty and central administration from the UPeU, including Dr. Gluder Quispe, Rector; Dr. Raul Acuña, Academic Vice Rector; Pr. Jaime Perez, Vice Rector of University Welfare, went out to pray and share messages of hope to the sick, their families and health personnel who struggle every day in a hospital.
With posters in hand and the distinctive polo shirt of the «Peru, I pray for you» campaign, they gathered outside the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases, the San Isidro Labrador Hospital, the Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen National Hospital and the Good Hope Clinic. Health personnel from the above mentioned hospitals were also present.
They prayed on their knees and cried out to God for the country, for the healing of the sick and for the comfort of the families who lost a loved one.
«We are praying for you, we are going to ask God to heal you», said Dr. Gluder Quispe, Rector of the UPeU, who encouraged them to have faith and hope because «only God is the one who sustains us». He also thanked the doctors and nurses who every day receive and attend to the patients in the fight against any illness.
The nursing staff of the Almenara Hospital was pleased with this action because «apart from the work and overload, they bring us faith, hope and peace,» said Dr. Gaby Chavez, head of the Nursing Department.
Dr. Davi Reis Lopes, general director of the Good Hope Clinic, also congratulated UPeU and mentioned that this «visit recharges us to continue fulfilling our mission. Together with the students on our knees all crying out to God for their care. The medical missionary work continues.
A prayer request box was also installed, where passers-by left their requests and demonstrated that together we can find strength in God.
In this way, the Universidad Peruana Unión, for its 102nd anniversary of institutional life and 38 years of university life, showed solidarity and promoted a great impact of prayer, because the best way to celebrate is to say: «Peru, I pray for you».
