Raquel Neira Suaña, a graduate of the Professional School of Architecture of Universidad Peruana Unión was one of the winners of the Regional Award for Undergraduate Research and Final Projects during the International Biennial of Architecture of Lima BIALIMA 2021, in category A: Buildings.

The purpose of the award is to promote, encourage and make visible the good practices and talent of the more than 17,000 architecture students in the Lima and Callao regions.

Raquel won third place with her proposal entitled «Between the fixed and the navigable: Lake Equipment System as a Productive Educational Catalyst in Lake Titicaca, Puno», which consists of a systematic proposal of equipment for the floating islands of the Uros.

«The project is based on Designing Productive Educational Centers in Lake Titicaca, in the communities of the Urus «Chulluni», Cruz and «Qapi» to revalue the vernacular architecture and rural profile. The floating capacity is reinterpreted preserving the traditional roots with modern technology of totora, also the project must present a modular character allowing small pieces and not a large piece, these are assembled according to the density and population need, maintaining a low profile, and thus achieve integrate into their environment, and accordingly a catalog of modules is proposed,» said Raquel Neira in a brief interview.

She also expressed her words of gratitude for this recognition: «I am grateful first of all to God, to my family for their dedication and constant support in every step of my career. To my advisor, Architect Cristian Yarasca, to the UPeU School of Architecture and to my friends who were part of this research and design process.

BIALIMA 2021 is organized by the College of Architects of Peru and is an important space for reflection and exhibition of good practices in architecture, taking into account the values of citizenship, equality and opportunities for all.
